The best maintenance work is invisible: nothing breaks, nothing leaks, nothing goes offline. Since 2020, a growing group of client websites has been on exactly that arrangement – hosted, updated, backed up and watched by the same person.

It started with a mindset shift I wrote about when it happened: stop treating projects as one-off jobs. Every build I deliver comes with hosting and care, because a website is an asset, not a brochure.

What five years of care looks like

Core and plugin updates tested before they touch the live site. Daily off-site backups. Uptime monitoring that wakes me up, not the client. Malware attempts cleaned before anyone notices. And through all of it: not a single lost website.

For the client it feels like nothing is happening – which is precisely the point, and precisely the result.
